Welcome to Third Grade!


August 21st-25th

Homework this Week:

Reading:  Read for 10 mins. each night.

Word Study:  Choose 3 activities from the choiceboard that is located in the front of the word study notebook. Activities should be completed neatly. in notebook.  Word study activities are due every Friday.  Please have your child bring their word study notebook back to school everyday as we will use the notebook for class assignments.


 What exciting things we will learn this week:

Reading (SOL: 3.5,): This week we will be reading folktales.  Our concentration will be on fairytales. Students will be able to identify the features of a fairytale, show proof, and compare and contrast two fairytales.  Students will be reading fairytales on their instructional level.

Writing: (SOL:  3.10) Students will be writing complete sentences.

Social Studies (SOL:  3.5)  Students will be creating a grid map on the computer and creating a world map identifying the continents and oceans.

Aug. 21st: School Dismisses at 4:00

Aug. 25th:  Hat Day for Charities

Sept. 4th:  Labor Day Holiday

Sept. 12th:  Back to School Night 6:00pm

Sept. 14th:  Interim Reports Go Home

Oct. 13th:  End of the first 9 weeks

Oct. 16th:  Teacher workday- students do not attend school


Rules & Expectations:  As a class, the students will decide on the rules and expectations for the classroom.  I have three rules that I expect from my students:  Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Make Good Choices.  In my classroom, we practice the three strikes: warning, time loss of recess, and write a note home.  I feel it is important for students to take reponsibility for their actions by writing a note home to their parents explaining their behavior.  As always, your support is appreciated.
